The MTC Dr Sam Nujoma National Half Marathon took place in Windhoek this morning. Helalia Johannes and Jeremia Shaliaxwe were crowned women and men National Half Marathon Champions this morning at the 2019 National Half Marathon Championships in Windhoek this morning. Helalia won the women’s race in a time of 01:17:51.40, while Jeremia won the men’s race in a time of 01:09:45.29. The online registration for the MTC-Dr Sam Nujoma National Half Marathon has closed and all is set for Sunday morning. Heavy weights in Namibia’s road running are expected to take part including the Queen of road running Helalia Johannes. Those that were not able to make the online registration will have the opportunity to register during supplementary registration on Saturday, 11 May 2019 at the Dr Agustino Neto Square, Ausspannplats.

Rainhold Thomas qualified for the World Championships at the Hamburg marathon after posting a time of 02:14.14 on the 28 April 2019. Rainhold joins Helalia Johannes as the two Namibian qualifiers so far.

The Khomas Athletics Region is hosting its regional track & field championships this weekend 23rd March 2019 at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek. The competition, which is open to athletes from other regions, will see most of the national athletes in action. Helalia Johannes won the Nagoya Women’s Marathon in Nagoya, Japan. She won the race in a personal best time and new national record of 2:22.25. As the winner of the largest woman’s marothon in the world, she was also awarded the first “Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) Inspirational Women Award”.
